In the modern world of mass shootings being commonplace,
One of the Lucky Ones follows a high-school teacher who is a survivor of one of these tragic events. As these events happen, the ones involved are under a microscope for a limited time by the media. However, we do not often see the lasting results. “70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced some type of traumatic event at least once in their lives. This equates to approximately 223.4 million people.” (PTSD United) Following a school shooting, mainly the kids are in the news; rarely do people hear about the teacher’s story. Teachers carry an enormous responsibility, to protect a room full of children and themselves. It was important for us to focus on an individual and see the toll of the lasting effects. This film goes into the life of someone who has lived through an active shooter incident. The main character suffers from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The teacher struggles with nightmares, triggers, and flashbacks in her daily life. Her marriage is under stress. Her PTSD is affecting her life in all regards. |
